FORTRAN 77 SPECIFICATION
     integer*4 function getpla()

FUNCTION RETURN VALUE
     The returned value of this function is the number of bitplanes available
     for drawing under the current drawmode.

DESCRIPTION
     getpla returns the number of bitplanes that are available for drawing
     under the current drawmode. When the drawmode is NORMDR, the result also
     depends on the current buffer mode and whether or not multimap mode is
     active. When the drawmode is CURSDR, getpla always returns 0, since no
     direct drawing can be done into the cursor planes.
