NAME getdescender - returns the character characteristics C SPECIFICATION long getdescender(); PARAMETERS none FUNCTION RETURN VALUE The returned value of this function is the length (in pixels) of the longest descender in the current font. DESCRIPTION getdescender returns the maximum distance (in pixels) between the baseline of a character and the bottom of the bitmap for that character. Each character in a font is defined using a bitmap that is displayed relative to the current character position. Vertical placement of each character is done using the current character position as the baseline or the line on the page. The portion of a character that extends below the baseline is called a descender. The lowercase characters g and p typically have descenders.
