DESCRIPTION
     SHORT returns an integer (KIND=2) result for a given argument.  This
     intrinsic accepts the following argument:

     a         Must be of type integer, real, or complex.

     This is an elemental function.  The name of this intrinsic cannot be
     passed an an argument.

RETURN VALUES
     The return value is an integer (KIND=2).
