NAME IEEE_BINARY_SCALE - Returns y multiplied by 2**n SYNOPSIS IEEE_BINARY_SCALE ([Y=]y, [N=]n) STANDARDS Fortran extension IEEE Standard for Binary Floating-point Arithmetic DESCRIPTION The IEEE_BINARY_SCALE intrinsic function returns y multiplied by the value 2n for integral values n without computing 2n. This function accepts the following arguments: y Must be of type real. n Must be of type integer. If y is scalar, n must be scalar. If y is an array, n can be a scalar or an array of the same shape as x. IEEE_BINARY_SCALE is an elemental function. The name of this intrinsic cannot be passed as an argument. RETURN VALUES The return value is of the same type and type parameter as y. If y is an array, the result is an array of the same shape as y. If y is scalar, the result is a scalar that has the value of y multiplied by 2n. If y is an array and n is scalar, the result is an array in which the value of each element is the product of yi and the value 2n. If y is an array and n is an array, the result is an array in which the value of each element is the product of yi and the value 2**ni. EXAMPLES REAL small, bigger ... ! Compute SMALL. bigger = IEEE_BINARY_SCALE(small, 2) BIGGER is assigned the value SMALL * 2**2.
