DESCRIPTION
     The num_pes function returns the number of PEs running in an
     application.

C/C++ NOTES
     The _num_pes intrinsic function is evaluated at run-time and cannot be
     used in constant expressions.

     Because _num_pes is an intrinsic function, no externally visible
     library function is available for it. The compiler generates inline
     code to produce the result.
